
Rose
Schweikhart is an active low brass musician in the Springfield area playing
tuba, euphonium and trombone. She holds the position of the Assistant Solo
Baritone Horn in the 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Band and can
be heard as soloist on Woodman, Spare that Tree.
Rose received her MMus with
Distinction in Tuba Performance from the Royal
Northern
College
of Music
in Manchester,
England,
where she studied with Roger Bobo and James Gourlay, and she completed her
Bachelors of Arts in Music Theory and Performance cum laude with Honors from
Connecticut College under the tuteledge of Gary Buttery. She has performed
on Tuba and Euphonium in such diverse places as Le Domaine Forget in Quebec,
Canada,
Budapest, Hungary and Kalavrita, Greece.
At the University of Illinois at Springfield,
Rose is on the administrative staff in the Dean's Office of the College of
Public Affairs while remaining
an active member of the UIS Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Jazz Combo. She
is also a member of the Springfield Municipal Band on Trombone and
the Heartland Brass Band on Euphonium.
When not playing music, Rose Schweikhart is a talented web-designer
with many web sites to her credit, including TubaNews.com. She also enjoys
remodelling and restoring her 100-year old house in Downtown Springfield
with her Fiancé, Captain R. Todd
Cranson, Director of the 10th Cavalry Band.
Trooper Schweikhart performs on an immaculately restored Bb Bass Trumpet manufacturered by the C.G. Shuster Company in Markneukirken, Germany, circa 1890. It features 3 side-action mechanical rotary valves and is finished in raw brass with nickel silver trim.
