
Corporal Niehaus, Low Brass section leader and solo Baritone holds music degrees from
Western Illinois University(BA) and the University of Illinois(MA). He studied trombone
and bass trombone with Hugo Magliocco, Robert Gray and Tom
Streeter.
Larry's experience includes playing in back up bands in
the 70's and 80's at the Illinois State Fair. He was a
member of the Illnois Symphony Orchestra for 25 years, on
bass trombone. He is a retired music educator for the
Springfield Public Schools.
Larry performs regularly on trombone, bass trombone,
euphonium, and tuba in Central Illinois ensembles-including
the Springfield Municipal Band, Heartland Brass Band, and
the 10th Calvary Band. He also enjoys playing string bass
and bass guitar in area bands and pit orchestras. Larry
performs on bass with the Thornebyrds Jazz Quintet. In the 10th Band, Corporal Niehaus
performs on a reproduction Saxhorn-style baritone made by Robb Stewart of California.
