
Dawn Henry
plays E flat Alto Horn with the 10th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry Regiment Band.
She and her husband, Col. T.L. Henry, Commander of the 10th Cavalry, participate in Civil War
re-enactments throughout the Midwest, portraying living history. Dawn performs on a 1860's
silver plated, rotary valve Eb Alto Horn made by the Dodworth company. Dawn also plays this
instrument in the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band.
Dawn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (with high honors) in communications/public relations,
from Bradley University, Peoria IL and studied at the University of Vienna, Austria. Over the
years, she has studied four foreign languages (German, French, Spanish and Russian)
and participated in education missions to the Ukraine after the fall of Communism in the early
1990's.
A versatile musician, Dawn Henry also performs on French horn with the Springfield Municipal Band.
She has been a member of numerous other organizations over the years, including Peoria Municipal Band,
Trinity Lutheran Church brass and woodwind ensembles, Cornstock Summer Theater, St. Martin
de Porres Chamber Ensemble and the Heartland Brass Band.
As a vocalist, Dawn has performed as a soloist with the 10th Cavalry Band, the Heartland Brass Band,
and the Springfield Municipal Band. Previously she performed as a member of the Peoria Area
Civic Chorale as an ensemble member and soloist. She has studied voice with Dr. Joseph D. Henry
of Eureka.
Dawn has two sons; Forrest is married to Shannon and they are the parents of Dawn's
grandchildren, Sarah and Benen. Nicholas is in the Air Force specializing in intelligence,
and is stationed in California. When Dawn is not playing a horn or singing, she works for
State Farm Insurance as an auto claims adjustor in Springfield, Illinois.
