Barry Woodworth
Barry began his music instruction under Larry Niehaus (Corporal in the 10th Cavalry Band)
and studied later with Ralph Ashcraft and Kim Klickna from whom he learned much about
the band business. Woodworth has played in pit orchestras for school musicals, and after
he met Gary Niehaus (Sgt in the 10th Cavalry Band) at the Carillon Festival, he continued his
percussion education. During this time, he also played back up for many different styles of bands,
including rock, blues, top 40, and country western. He also plays in the
Illinois National Guard band and has his own business running sound for all types of professional
bands. When Barry is not running sound or playing drums, he is employed by the Village of
Southern View. He is affectionately known as BDB, "Bass Drum Barry."
Barry plays a reproduction bass drum in the 10th Cavalry Band. The drum was made to exact
specifications of the original drums used during the Civil War Era. It is made from maple wood,
leather, animal skin, and rope.
