Memories of The Presidential Ball

Guests arriving at the foot of the Grand Staircase at the Executive Mansion. Check-in for the Col. and his guests. Reception desk and ladies as you check in.
The State Dining room at the Mansion with Mr. Lincoln's birthday cake and other goodies. Rochester High School Service Club volunteers helped serve the guests. Capt Cranson gives last minute instructions to the band prior to the ball.
A brief moment with the President and the Col. Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln receive and welcome guests to the ball. Ladies discuss who will dance what dance and with whom.
Mr. Lincoln in the mirror. Mrs. Lincoln anticipates a great evening with her husband, the President. Band members Eric Johnson, George Niehaus and 'Bass Drum' Barry Woodworth take a break before the ball begins.
Corp. Larry Niehaus discusses the fine points of bugling with Dennis Jones, while Sgt. Gary Niehaus observes. Mr. Lincoln reflects on 200 years. The music begins and the dancers prepare.
Ladies dressed in satin and gentlemen dressed to impress, dance the Rustic Reel. Stepping through the portals of time back to the 1860's The sergeant and his lady waltz into the evening.
The band prepares to break and watch Mr. Lincoln cut his birthday cake in the State Dining room. Everyone watches and prepares for Mr. Lincoln to cut the cake. Col. Henry presents President Lincoln with a gift from Mr. & Mrs. Tinsley and requests Mr. Lincoln cut his cake.
As the ball resumes the band assembles to play Aura Lea. The guests are treated to a lovely vocal solo 'Aura Lea' from Dawn Henry, a member of the band who plays Eb Alto horn. Guests watch and listen as the evening draws to a close, while the band plays their theme song, Garry Owen.
